Meet the Port Before the Cards
How a grain forwarding office on Dempster Street became Esperance's dining room and card hall.
Take the Port's Rhythm Indoors
Esperance grew on wheat leaving the port and rock lobster coming off the boats, and the rooms above the old grain agency grew out of the same trade, standing where the jetty lights still guide boats home after dark.
The building served as a grain forwarding office for decades before the rooms opened upstairs, and ledger books from that trade still sit in a cabinet by the stairs.
We kept the trade's rhythm — early starts, long evenings — and turned the upstairs rooms over to supper and cards instead of freight.

- The Jetty
- A short walk from the door, its lights visible from the upstairs windows come evening.
- The Ledger
- Grain records from the 1920s are still kept on the stairs.
